A “workcation” where you can work away from the office and enjoy your vacation in a tourist area or resort area. This is a report that a full-time work girl who longs for a workcation honestly told what she felt when she experienced it for the first time! I will divide it into steps from a beginner's point of view.
Work from home, coworking space, nomad worker... Various work styles have emerged in recent years.
When the new coronavirus had just started to spread, I experienced a dreamlike work style called "fully remote", but now I'm a company employee who is "fully at work". "Workcation" has been on my mind for a long time.
But I come to work five days a week . A workcation is a dream come true. I don't know when to go.
One day, when I was talking to a colleague sitting next to me, "I want to try a workation, isn't it? " What you can do...! I wanted to go, but when it came time to go, I didn't know where to go. I got lost and decided to use the travel subscription " HafH " to find a workation destination.
STEP1. Decide where to work!
The reason why I used " HafH " is because I was attracted to being able to book over 1,000 domestic and overseas accommodations at a fixed price. The first thing I noticed when I opened the website was that the accommodations were carefully selected, making it fun to choose. A lot of hotels and inns that I have been interested in for a long time appeared, and I was at a loss as to where to go.
What's even nicer is that you can stay at a slightly more luxurious hotel by saving coins. You can use workation on weekdays and stay at a luxury hotel on your days off with the coins you have accumulated. It's a perfect service for those who can work on a daily basis and those who enjoy traveling! I can't do it on a daily basis (I hope I can !!! ), but since I'm in the middle of the day, I'm looking for a destination in the mood of someone who usually does it.
I decided to search based on three conditions .
Then, the white arrow stood up, "Tenku no Niwa Amamu" in Ibaraki Prefecture. According to my research, it's just a little over two hours away from Tokyo, and since it claims to be a health resort with the theme of "resetting the mind and body," it seems to have a pretty refreshing environment. The reservation was completed while my heart was pounding with the photos on the site.
STEP2. Let's head to the workation destination!
On the day. If you have a PC and a notebook in your travel set for 2 days and 1 night , it's quite a big luggage. It takes about 2 hours from Tokyo Station to Takahagi Station, the nearest station, while carrying the luggage, and about 30 minutes by transfer from there. I was already feeling tired, but when I arrived at the inn, I was surprised by the location!
Eh, I can only see nature...Where am I... The Tenku no Niwa Tenmamu, which I chose as my accommodation this time, was a resort facility with a vast site as large as 28 Tokyo Domes. The view is very soothing to me who only looks at PCs and smartphones. Eye strain seems to be relieved (simple).
Overwhelmed by the richness of nature and the size of the facility, I went to my room today. Since I will be working here, I hope that the environment will be easy to work in, and when I open the door...
Uh, it's wide... Staying here alone is the ultimate in luxury. Workation is the best. The fatigue so far has blown away at once! And it even has a balcony. And I can only see nature !!!
However, it's just a workation. I'm here to work, so I'll do my job properly. I decided to work with the curtains fully open at the window seat.
When I work in an office, the only things I can see are my desk and my colleague in front of me. However, when I was suddenly released and had to work with Midori in front of me, I felt uneasy. I thought it would progress, but I'm really looking at the green... It's not like there's been any change, but I'm really looking forward to it...
I can't concentrate because I started work without cooling down my excitement. I had a hard time concentrating, so I went out to the grounds to take a walk outside (too early) to take a break.
STEP3. Vacation!
…… No, is it here in Japan !? The scenery reminds me of the countryside overseas. The only sounds you can hear are the sounds of nature such as the sound of the wind and the singing of birds. If you live in Tokyo, you can't hear people's voices or the sounds of cars at all.
Of course, there are no buildings or large monitors. I felt my brain take a break, as only information that I could process on my own was coming in here.
After looking at nature and my excitement subsided, I decided to go back to work. This time I'm in a relaxed state, so my work is progressing...Workation is the best (second time). I've only been here for a few hours, but I feel like I've fully enjoyed my workcation.
STEP4. Relax!
And before you know it, it's 18:00 . It's time. Normally, there are days when I work overtime, but since it's dinner time from 6pm, I finished early . I wondered how long it would be before the sun went down to eat dinner...how unhealthy I thought, as I headed towards the restaurant.
What came out was a meal that looked beautiful anyway. The meals served at the hotel are based on macrobiotics and medicinal foods, incorporating fermented foods and raw foods, and dishes that do not use any animal ingredients or white sugar. I usually eat a lot of junk food and lack a well-balanced diet. I was particularly moved by the soy meat karaage. It was so delicious that I thought it might be better for Arasa, who recently had a lot of stomach problems with the juiciness of fried chicken.
After dinner, when I went out to the corridor to go back to my room, the facility was turned off and only indirect lighting was on. Maybe it's because I'm full, or because of the soft lights, I'm completely in a relaxing mode.
After returning to the room, take a break while drinking hot tea. There is no TV in the room, so there is nothing to do in a good way. I mean, I don't feel like watching tv or smartphone. I feel like I'm relaxing from the bottom of my heart...
After that, I soaked in the large public bath and fell asleep at night.
STEP5. Refresh!
I went to bed early and got up refreshed on the second day. I often wake up badly and don't feel well, but on this day I woke up surprisingly well. I decided to start work early in the morning while thinking that I could do my job. Normally, I would go to work and start work, but I am happy that I can start at my own pace.
After breakfast, I decided to join a yoga class. This time, I participated in a class held in the "Miharashi no Mori" on the premises. It wasn't long before I joined, hoping that yoga while looking at the nature in front of me would be very pleasant. For someone like me, who doesn't exercise on a daily basis, I was keenly aware of the state of my body. Because the body is too stiff, you may find it difficult to strike a pose at first. When the body gradually loosened, it was a long-awaited relaxation part.
Then, the sound of the wind, the voice of the birds, and the sound of the rain (it was raining a little that day), which I had not heard until a while ago, began to sink into my body. It feels as if you are one with nature, and you doze off unintentionally. At first, it was a little difficult to move, but my body loosened up, and in the end, it was a wonderful time to refresh my mind. This class seems to be held irregularly, so if you are interested, it would be better to check at the front desk!
After all, taking a breather is important for work
After that, I said goodbye to nature and returned to Tokyo. Frankly, what was your first impression of the workcation?
Workation is the best (third time).
At first, I thought I might not be able to concentrate on working in a different environment than usual, but it was a workation, including a break. I realized that by thoroughly enjoying the vacation part, work can also be lively. If you're working in an office, it's hard to take a break, to be honest. However, it was two days that I felt that it was important to take a break in order to improve work efficiency.
I was able to go to a special workation this time, but I'm planning to go to other places as well. I wonder if I'll try talking to myself in front of my boss again...
